PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS

Founder and President of the Jordanian Society of American Medical Graduates
(6/2002-till present). Requirements for membership in the society: Completion of postgraduate training in a medical specialty/subspecialty in the USA , and obtaining the American Board certification in the specialty. As of April 2005, the society has 120 Jordanian members specialized in different fields of medicine, and are currently practicing in Jordan . Activities of the society include monthly continuing medical education lecture, social gathering, public awareness of medical conditions, and yearly medical conferences. The society's website is under construction. A brochure about the society will be issued soon.

Elected “ Scientific Committee Officer ” of the Jordanian Gastroenterology Society (6/1998-6/2000): Job included moderating monthly scientific activities: seminars, State-of-the-art lectures, Journal Clubs, video presentations in the field of Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases.

Leader of the Endoscopy Disinfection/Sterilization Campaign in Amman-Jordan , whose function was to teach the endoscopy units personnel, and endorse the established “ endoscopy disinfection and sterilization ” guidelines set forth by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Endoscopy personnel from Seton Hall University Hosp. in New Jersey was invited to Jordan and gave a series of hands-on seminars to endoscopy personnel in 6 major Hospitals in Amman-Jordan in August, 1998. These efforts were arranged and financially supported by me and my partner at the Jordan Center for Digestive and Liver diseases in Amman . This campaign had a huge impact on patient ' s safety and well being.

Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the 4 th Jordanian Gastroenterology Conference
Held in Amman-Jordan in the period of 26th-28 th of March, 2000. This was a major Middle Eastern Gastroenterology Conference that was attended by doctors from several neighboring countries. 10 renowned speakers were invited from several parts of the world including USA , United Kingdom , Italy , France , Germany and Turkey . 33 State-of-the-art lectures, and 10 scientific papers were presented. Duties included contacting speakers, choosing scientific topics, reviewing and selecting abstracts for oral presentations, arranging the schedule of the scientific sessions, supervising and moderating scientific activities during the conference.

Advancement of the Science and Practice of Therapeutic Biliary and Pancreatic Endoscopy in Jordan : Being the only certified Interventional Biliary-pancreatic Endoscopist in Jordan, I exerted tremendous efforts in establishing specialized endoscopy units in Amman-Jordan, equipped with up to date instruments, and trained personnel. Delivered lectures on this topic.

First successful insertion of self expandable Metallic Stent for malignant Biliary obstruction in Jordan was done by me in January 1999, and appeared in 4 major newspapers in Amman-Jordan, as a remarkable achievement in the field of Biliary Endoscopy. I was also the first endoscopist in Jordan to insert multiple biliary stents in the same patient in 1998.

American College of Gastroenterology - Speaker Bureau Member: Being a member, I received slide presentations on several topics in Gastroenterology, and presented them to several groups of medical audiences, and in several forums like the Jordanian Medical Society, the Jordanian Gastroenterology Society, and the Jordan-American Medical Association. )

Faculty member of the American College of Physicians international meeting Held in Amman-Jordan in the period of 1997. I presented a “ Meet the Professor ” lecture on Advances in Pancreatico-Biliary Endoscopy

Co-founder and co-director of The Jordan Center for Digestive and Liver Diseases since July, 1998. This is the first center in Jordan that is dedicated solely for the care and management of diseases of the liver and digestive system. It is composed of two subspecialty clinics, and a state-of – the-art endoscopy suite that was established according to the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy guidelines. The center is rapidly becoming a referral center for patients from throughout Jordan , and several neighboring countries, including Yemen , Lybia, and Sudan .
